Cacao is a delicious superfood that we all love. It is also known as Theobroma Cacao, which is the Latin term for “Food of the Gods”. Cacao is raw which means that it has not been treated. It is made by fermenting and pressing unroasted cacao beans, therefore its nutritional benefits are still intact. Cocoa powder and chocolate are made from an extract of the seeds of the fruit of the cacao tree, and both have shown to be linked to potential health benefits. Research shows that the quality and quantity of antioxidants in cocoa and chocolate are very high and their flavonoids are believed to help with anti-aging, as well as reduce the number of free radicals in the body that contribute to medical problems, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. Cacao is also linked to having tryptophan and anandamide, which lessen anxiety, promote relaxation, and trigger the production of endorphins ~
